The Best Seat at Thanksgiving Isn't Always at the Grown-Ups' Table

Remember the kids' table at Thanksgiving?

The folding chairs. The paper plates. The cousins you hadn't seen in months. Somebody laughing so hard they snorted mashed potatoes.

And that one cousin who was 23 years old and somehow STILL sitting at the kids' table. 😂

Every family had its own version.

Some of us couldn't wait to graduate to the grown-ups' table. Others figured out pretty quickly that the kids were having a whole lot more fun anyway.

Funny thing is, when we look back on our favorite holidays, it's usually those little moments we remember.

Not whether the napkins matched.

Not whether the centerpiece looked like something out of a magazine.

And definitely not whether the gravy boat coordinated with the dinner plates.

Every Family Has That One Person

You know the one.

The person who insists Thanksgiving dinner starts at noon.

The person who shows up at 2:00 because that's when they've always eaten.

The aunt who brings the same casserole every single year, and everybody knows better than to suggest changing the recipe.

The uncle who takes his place in front of the football game approximately seven minutes after walking through the door.

And somebody who announces they're bringing a "healthy version" of a family favorite.

Which, of course, immediately raises questions. 😂

Every family has its characters. That's half the fun.

And somehow, year after year, everybody finds their way back around the same table.

Thanksgiving in Southern Arizona Has Its Own Personality

If you've spent a Thanksgiving or two in Green Valley, Sahuarita, Nogales or anywhere around Southern Arizona, you know our holidays can look a little different.

For starters, we might actually be eating outside.

While family members up north are shoveling snow, we're deciding whether it's warm enough to have Thanksgiving dinner on the patio.

And depending on the family, the menu might include turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, tamales, homemade salsa and enough desserts to feed the entire neighborhood.

Some families host a traditional Thanksgiving dinner at home. Others get together at a local park, clubhouse or community gathering space.

There are neighborhood potlucks, Friendsgiving celebrations, family reunions and those wonderful holiday gatherings where everybody brings a dish.

Which means there are usually six desserts, three salads and somebody who forgot what they signed up to bring.

It all works out.

That's one of the things we love about Southern Arizona. So many different people, traditions and ways to celebrate.

And somehow, they all have one thing in common.

Good food and good company.

There's Always Room for One More

Every family seems to have somebody who says, "Oh, bring them along!"

A neighbor spending the holiday alone.

A friend whose family lives out of state.

Someone's new boyfriend or girlfriend who gets introduced to approximately 37 relatives in the first ten minutes.

Or that cousin who calls Thanksgiving morning to ask if it's okay to bring a friend.

Of course it is.

Pull up another chair.

Scoot everybody over.

We'll find room.

And years later, nobody remembers exactly how many people squeezed around the table.

But someone will remember being included.

That's a pretty wonderful thing.

The Best Holiday Memories Usually Aren't Planned

Think about your favorite Thanksgiving.

Was it the year everything went perfectly?

Or was it the year the turkey took forever, the kids played football in the backyard until dark, and somebody told a story at dinner that had everyone laughing so hard they couldn't finish eating?

Maybe it was Grandma's kitchen.

The first Thanksgiving with a new grandbaby.

The year the whole family finally made it home.

Or the time somebody dropped an entire pie on the floor.

Okay, that last one might still be a sensitive subject. 😂

The point is, the things we remember are the people, the laughter and the stories.

Those are the things that make a holiday special.

From Our Family at Desert Sky Party Rental to Yours

We get to see a lot of celebrations around Southern Arizona.

Michael and David spend their days delivering tables and chairs for birthday parties, weddings, quinceañeras, baptisms, family reunions, holiday gatherings and community events throughout Green Valley, Sahuarita, Nogales and the surrounding area.

Some gatherings need a few extra folding chairs around the backyard.

Others need round tables, banquet tables and enough seating for a pretty impressive crowd.

And we love being part of both.

Because after the tables are delivered and the chairs are set out, the best part begins.

The food arrives.

The family gathers.

The stories start.

And somebody inevitably asks, "Who's sitting where?"

If you're hosting Thanksgiving, a holiday party or a family gathering in Southern Arizona and need extra tables and chairs, we'd be happy to help. We offer clean folding chairs, banquet tables, 6-foot round tables, simple rental packages and local delivery.

But whether you're hosting 10 people or 100, here's what we hope for you this holiday season:

A table full of people you love.

Plenty of good food.

A few stories worth telling again next year.

And always, always room for one more.

Happy Thanksgiving from Michael, David, and Desert Sky Party Rental! 🦃❤️
